Announcing [kya-roh-SKOO-roh]: A limited edition Photography Zine

For years, I’ve experimented with different styles of photography. Street, landscapes, concerts, pets. But at some point, people began telling me, “Silhouettes are your thing.” Every time I shared one, the comments rolled in. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking much about it. I was just drawn to the contrast, the way a shape could tell a story without giving everything away.

Eventually, I realized they were right. This was my thing. Silhouettes. Chiaroscuro. That space between light and dark where the imagination fills in the gaps.

With my experience in self-publishing, the idea started to click: what if I leaned into this theme fully and made a photography zine? That’s how [kya-roh-SKOO-roh] was born.

Why This Zine Is Different

Everything about this project was intentional:

  • The Cover: A soft-touch finish for its velvety, almost moleskin leather-like feel, something you want to pick up and hold.

  • The Paper: Weighted just right, with a texture that adds presence.

  • The “Errors”: What looks like imperfections are actually choices, adding grit and character. If it looks wrong, it’s meant to.

  • The Photos: Exaggerated black and white contrasts that embrace the rawness of chiaroscuro.

  • The Design: Covers that leave just enough mystery, inviting you to open and explore.

  • The Prompts: Placed throughout the zine, designed to be thought-provoking and encourage you to revisit it again and again.

This isn’t just a collection of photos. It’s an experience. A small, tactile object with weight, grit, and mystery.

The Beauty of Silhouettes

Silhouettes are universal and ambiguous at the same time. They can be anything, anyone. Your mind fills in the gaps: the details, the emotions, the solitude, or the energy. There’s no wrong way to see them.

That’s what makes chiaroscuro so powerful. It’s not just about photography—it’s about imagination and interpretation.

Limited Pre-Orders Are Open

Pre-order your copy of [kya-roh-SKOO-roh] through September for $10.

This is a limited edition release. Once October hits, pre-orders close and I’ll begin shipping all orders. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Sure, I could open up orders again in the future. But I love the idea of something small-batch and limited. It makes each copy more meaningful for those who have it.
